Pelvic pain
Pelvic pain, taken seriously
Care for pain in the low belly, pelvis, hips or tailbone, for adults of any gender.
Pelvic pain often has more than one part: muscles that guard, a joint that is sore, a nerve that is irritated, a body that has learned to brace. A visit starts with your story and ends with a plan you understand.
This care is for you if
Your pelvic or low belly pain comes and goes, or has stayed for months
Sitting for long, exercise or the end of the day makes it worse
Tests have not found a clear cause, or you were told it is normal
You are tired of being told to just relax

What a visit looks like
Who treats you
Wilhelmina Griffin, a licensed physical therapist, at every visit. There is no handoff to an assistant.
What happens
You talk first, fully clothed. Then she watches how you sit, stand, breathe and move, and explains what she finds.
How long
A first visit lasts about an hour. Follow-up visits are shorter, and you hear the length when you book.
What Wilhelmina does
Listens first
Your history, your goals and what you have already tried, with no rush.
Explains the pelvic floor
What the muscles do, why they can hurt, and what your pain may and may not mean.
Movement and breathing
Slow work on posture, breath and the muscles around the pelvis, fitted to what you can tolerate.
Hands-on work, if you want it
Only after she explains it, only with your yes, and you can stop at any point.
A home plan
A short routine you can fit into a day, and changed when it stops fitting.
Before you book
What decides how many visits
How many visits you need depends on how long the pain has been there, what else is going on in your body, what you want to get back to, and how you respond. Wilhelmina goes over the plan with you as you go.
Who treats you
Wilhelmina Griffin is a licensed physical therapist in Wisconsin. You see her at every visit.
About WilhelminaHow it is paid for
Most PPO plans and Medicare are billed, and you can pay yourself with a written estimate first.
How fees workWhen to see a doctor first
Pain that comes on suddenly and severely, or pain with fever, vomiting or heavy bleeding needs a doctor now. If pelvic pain has never been checked by a doctor, they may want to see you too.
- Chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache or pain, new weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a head injury needs emergency care now. Call 911.
Questions about this care
Will it hurt?
Wilhelmina works within what you can tolerate and stops when you say stop. Pain is part of what she is trying to understand, not something to push through.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. A partner, friend or family member can sit in on all of your visit or part of it.
Do I need tests before I book?
No. Bring any results or notes you already have. Wilhelmina may suggest you also see your doctor.
